ALL SAINTS CATHOLIC COLLEGE

Educatio

“Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science.” Edwin Powell Hubble, The Nature of Science

Mission Statement

The mission of the Science department is to provide a foundation in the elements of scientific method, theory and applicability that will encourage students to acquire an in-depth appreciation of Science. Students are introduced to many key scientific skills in the first few weeks at All Saints Catholic College, which provide a basis for their learning over the subsequent years. Most students will study for the AQA Combined Science: Trilogy award through which they will gain two Science GCSEs. There is also the option to study the Separate Sciences which provide the perfect learning platform for taking Science beyond secondary school.

At the end of their scientific education in All Saints Catholic College, each student will be able to:

  • apply scientific method and critical thinking skills to raise questions and define and solve problems;

  • evaluate the quality of scientific information and its interpretation;

  • clearly express scientific ideas using oral, visual and written communication;

  • understand the ethical dimensions and role of science in human experience;

  • acquire the technical and interpersonal skills to be leaders who contribute to an ever-changing society.
